Movie trailers are, at their core, just another form of advertising. They serve to get us excited about seeing the next blockbuster,   remind us that a new favorite is coming to DVD, or entice us into tracking down an opus we’ve never seen before.   And putting trailers into the Archive amounts to free advertising for these films.   In that spirit, I offer “Trailerama,” culled from my DVD collection. It includes come-ons for mega-budget flicks, no-budget labors of love, and the usual...

Gerardo Vargas, a.k.a "Promise," was a gang member and high school drop out, firmly in the grip of a New York City ghetto life -- that is, until he enrolled in Satellite High School. Satellite is an alternative school that is giving Gerardo a second chance. The program offers fewer classes that meet for longer periods, so Gerardo has more time to focus on each subject. Much smaller than traditional schools, Satellite allows Gerardo to be on a first name basis with his teachers, which...

San Francisco-based found footage film-maker Craig Baldwin is one of America's most celebrated experimental artists. His work has been selected for major film festivals around the world and exhibited at some of the most prestigious museums and galleries on the planet. In this bleeding-edge edit by Lewis Cohen, Craig explains the reason for his copyright challenging work... and gives a brief history of the culture jam, from Warhol to EBN.

The deliciously delayed debut release from I, Cactus brings you a short collection of sweet tunes filled with heartbreakingly innocent melodies. As you stroll along with the sun at your back, one cute cactus after another bouncing happily behind you, with this carefree blend of chippy harmonies and clicky crunchy beats you'll never look at a cactus the same way again. Featuring such treasures as "Bamboo Cactus" an unforgettable remix of Nullsleep's "Playful Panda" - this...

"The French Democracy," released mere weeks after the release of Lionhead's "The Movies," gives evidence for the potential of game movies as commentaries on current events. Inspired by the recent riots in the Parisian suburbs, this movie tells several stories about the victimization of French minority groups through harassment, job discrimination, and daily events and depicts circumstancs that make them feel like second-class citizens. Implicitly, this movie attempts to...

This flourishing shuffled step and melodic craftsman from Finland proves his commitment to taking his style to new heights and quality with Luo. An achievement inviting you to quietly listen and enjoy a comfortable and catchy groove with its adventurous instrumental adornment, thoughtful melodies, spiraling synths, playful/pragmatic percussion, and bouncing bass. bad loop's intent to create a solidly cohesive listen from begining to end has paid off. It's nearly been three years since his last...

Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told."
